I remember....

... how Galen was eight months old when he suddenly started to imitate us. So funny. And sometimes painful. Galen really likes to discover things and like to find out how things work in detail. So he very carefully picks up or grips what he wants to research. With his small but quite strong fingers with sharp nails, it is not nice if he wants to find out how my lips work.

I remember....

... my father telling me how he came up with the idea of having a photograph taking with me every birthday. He told me that my mother was wheeled away around nine to have a ceasarion. He was left alone in the hospitalroom to wait. A nurse came to ask him whether he wanted to have something to eat, which he thought was a good idea. And then he heard a noise in the hallway. It was me being wheeled to him in a glass basket on wheels. He was told that I was his daughter. He held me for the first time, with only a nurse there. She asked him if he wanted her to take a picture. He did and she toke a picture around ten past half past nine. It was the first picture taking of me. I always thought that that was my time of birth, but it isn't. I must have been born around twentyfive past nine or maybe even twenty.

I remember....

... the first night with Galen. We were in the hospital. I could not stop looking at him. I knew that it was good for him to let him sleep in his own bed. But I was so happy everytime he woke up. So I could pick him up and cuddle him.

I remember...

.... how every night, when I put Galen in his sleeping bag (trappelzak) I kiss his feet. First the left, then the right, then I clap his feet a few times together and then I kiss both feet. With every act I say something like goodnight, till tomorrow, sleep tigt etc. It must mean I love him deeply, because I hate feet.

I remember....

... how my eyes swell up when an animalhair or skinbit gets into  my eye. They swell up so that I barely can open my eyes. First time happened after I rode the pony Pepe. I must have been 6 or something. Way later, I think when I was already thirty, sometimes it was not the outside of the eye that was swelling (together with the inside? I do not know) but the inside, the white part.

I remember....

... my first lesson to learn how to ride a horse. Or the first times... I went into the stables to look at the horses, but it slowly made me loose my breath. I rode a small horse, named Pepe. It was rainy and the paddock I was riding in was muddy. Apparently Pepe had put out his chest when the teacher fastened the 'singel', because suddenly I started to slide to the side of the pony until I was hanging under a walking pony. I remember that i was looking at the ground and waited for a dry spot to let go of the pony.

I remember....

... one time when I was working in the supermarket that someone did not wanted to be helped by me, because of my skin. She asked for the boss, so I called mister Masereeuw. He was angry but he stayed rather civil. He simply told the person that she could be helped by me or leave. And that she should stop insulting me, because I was not dirty and good in my work.

I remember....

... how I have to really stop myself from picking Galen up everytime I go to check on him at night. I really want to hug him and kiss him.

.... how a couple of days ago Galen noticed how fun it is to put his mouth on my leg and blow hard. He laughed really hard at the sound. So you started to do the same. It was so funny.

I remember....

... a celebration of Sinterklaas with my grandmother and granddad. In the corner of the living room a large chair was placed. And through a screw were ropes guided, obviously attached to things. So we could 'touwtje trekken' to get our gifts.

... another celebration was with my grandma. Sinterklaas had delivered a huge boat, made out of paper, with a lot of presents in it. The boat was at least two meters long and the highest point was at least a meter.

I remember....

... how we went to De Mare one day. It had snowed. So when we passed a white patch of grass, I made a snowangel.

I remember....

.... how I had a lot of copypaper that I had used. We made 'proppen' from that paper and you made 'egelheim' with them.

I remember....

.... how, when I was little, I used to stretched out on the bottom on my bed, with my head near the wall, so I could roll myself up in my blanky, like a pancake.

I remember....

... when I was little, I went with my parents to visit family or friends. Because we stayed past my bedtime, I went to bed there. And when we went home, we were happy, because we were allowed to 'lichtjes kijken'.

I remember....

.... that I was really upset about the 'hielprik'. The thought that Galen would be pricked.... horrible. But Galen was asleep in my arms and he did not even woke up when he was pricked.

.... that you were late for work in Galens first month, because we did not set an alarm, because Galen used to wake us up. But this time he didn't, he slept really long and we didn't wake on time.

I remember....

.... how we started a half year beforehand so that we could give Kamiel a garbagebag full of candy. We never filled the entire bag, because it was way too expensive, but I think it was half full.
Two weeks later Kamiel called, if we had more, because he was out of candy.

I remember....

... one of the first days I came home from working in Zaandam. You had cooked (for the first time?). It was tortellini, the meat filled one, with a nice red sauce and paprika. It was good and it was so nice that you had gone to at lot of trouble to cook for me.

I remember....

... how we used to celebrate Christmas with your parents. With a new book and a nice plate of 'boerenkool' of 'erwtensoep'.

.... how one Christmas you did not buy one christmastree but five small ones.

I remember....

....how we opened a bag of crisps when we stillled in the mulderij and found that the crisps were no longer crispy. There was a hole in the bag, made by a mouse. So we captured the tiny fieldmouse and released it at the Geestmerambacht.

I remember....

... my mother telling me that I was a relaxed and easy going too, just like Galen. That I slept well. And that I could fill up my diaper in one go, just like Galen. And we, i and my brothers, were all late with getting teeth.

... that one year we campes on camping Alkmaar because our house was being reconstructed or something. I was sleeping in the fronttent. When I could up in the morning, getting of my campingbed, I stepped in water. It had rained so hard that the ground could not take so much water.

... that we went for a big icecream at the end of the summerholiday in the Italian place in Egmond. The place where my mother went with her parents to get icecream.

I remember....

..... how we went to visit your grandmother in Amsterdam. We were getting of the bus right after and old lady. She slipped on the stairs leaving the bus. In a reflex I stuck out my arms and prevented her from falling.

I remember....

.... how we watched Gilmore Girls, with light crisps and a dipsauce.

I remember....

.... the morning in the shed. I was a bit late, so I asked you to get my bike. But I ran into you in the shed. We started kissing and getting horny. So I made you come, in the shed, with our neighbours walking around in their garden.

I remember....

.... The first time I saw you. We were both in the Intersphere. I was there with Mark and Rogier to celebrate R's birthday. You were sitting at a table and you said 'fuck you'. I do not know to whom. I responded with 'yes, please'.

I remember...

... Galen at the consultatiebureau. He was playing with a block and he was offered a second one, because teh nurse wanted to see if he could keep a thing in both of his hands simultanously. Galen looked at the block and dropped one, so the nurse gave it back to him. He looked at it again and dropped it again. So she tried a third time and he dropped it again. The fourth time Galen turned and looked at her like :'Dude, I dropped it three times, don't you get that I do not want it? Go away'. Then she stopped and decided that he could do it. We started to talk and Galen turned, picked up the block and started to slam it together with the other block.

.... also in this meeting. The nurse picked Galen up and tried to make him sit to see whether he could do it. He sat and he keeped on sitting when she took her hands of him. We looked at each other astonished, because we never tried whether he could sit, because he always stands up immediately.
